online with Zoom platform
Online workshop on science fiction and creative writing.
Participate in a creative writing workshop led by Amy Josephine Budge in which we will write, read, and think queer ecologies together through the medium of science fiction. We’ll focus on intergender relationships and character construction, and use science fiction as a springboard to consider the politics and possibilities of placing protagonists, plots, and realities that remain oppressed and marginalized in Western patriarchal societies and gender systems at the center of the action. You will have the opportunity to play around with writing micro-stories and mapping a speculative universe, as well as discussing short domestic readings in small groups.
Ama Josephine Budge / www.amajosephinebudge.com / is a speculative fiction author, artist, curator and pleasure activist whose interdisciplinary practice carves a path through intimate explorations of race, art, ecology and blackness. Ama is a PhD candidate on the Psychosocial Studies programme at Birkbeck (University of London). Her research takes a queer and decolonial approach to critiquing climate colonialism in sub-Saharan Africa, focusing primarily on the inherently ecological practice of pleasure in Ghana. Ama is a member of the Queer Ecologies collective, runs the Apocalypse Reading Room project and is a featured artist in the MycoLective project in collaboration with Chisenhale Studios and Feral Practice. Ama has written internationally published and commissioned texts in journals such as Anathema: Spec from the Margins, The Architectural Review, Black Discourse, The Feminist Review, The Independent, Autograph ABP, Consented Magazine, etc. Examples of her work can be found here.
