Barbora Bírová: reading from the book Homelessness and Public Space
Barbora Bírová is a social anthropologist, advisor on ending homelessness and co-author of the book.
Rad Bandit and Lenka Vrbová: reading from the book Hope is on the Other Side.
The author of the book, Rad Banditt is a social worker, a team member and one of the founders of the organization Like Home. Lenka Vrbová has been working at Jako doma for six years. She mainly manages the organisation and co-organises activities for homeless women. When needed, she can even fix the boiler.
Nina Nováková: reading from Iveta Horváthová’s Fairy Tales for Adults – About the King and Queen and candies that make your hands and feet grow
Nina Nováková is one of the women who spend time at the As at Home Community Centre. She helps with food preparation and cleaning. She enjoys fashion and chatting and is often involved with the people who visit Jako dom. Sometimes she even gives advice on what looks best on someone.
Throughout the day, there was an improvised sewing workshop provided by Mia Jadrná and Anna Vácová from LUV-1 studio and Kateřina Beránková and Veronika Pavlíková from the Velvet project. They sewed ill-fitting clothes for women in social need and visitors to the event.
Kristina Fingerland led a workshop of collective embroidery and storytelling, during which a collaborative writing with needle and thread was created on the canvas.
Together we prepared potato salad, a musical Dj set was played by Zey from Synth Library Prague, and refreshments were provided by the Homeless Cooks Canteen.

Come spend a Saturday with us while helping each other to fix clothes that don’t fit, create a shared story on a single piece of fabric with needle and thread, share and listen to stories and create new ones, cook together, eat together, listen to music and participate in the making. And to reflect together on themes related to women’s homelessness: invisibility, loneliness, violence, physicality, caring and the limits of normality.
The title is a quote from the book Hope is on the Other Shore: the lives of Prague’s homeless women. By Rad Banditt, published by As Home – Homelike o.p.s. and BROKEN BOOKS 2016.
The project is realized with the support of the City of Prague, Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Municipality of Prague 7 and the State Fund for Culture.
