QUEERING: Wellbeing in the community. Rituals of presence, rituals of care.
Workshop for activists with artists and therapists Laura and Glynis.
Studio TEP39 Řehořova 33/39 Praha 3, 130 00
We invite you to a workshop designed (not only) for activists.
Offering support to oneself and others – this can feel like the most radical and also the most difficult practice. What to do about it? If we want to build community, we need to start with ourselves.
This workshop for activists with artists and therapists Laura and Glynis is about wellbeing in an activist context and strategies for nurturing self and collective. We will focus on how not to burn out in activist circles and how to take care of our mental health in relation to the unstable times and multiple crises we are going through as a society.
But also sign up if you don’t consider yourself an activist directly, but you are part of a community and need to learn to pay more attention to yourself and not just others.
Using somatic exercises, sound, movement and creative processes/artistic techniques, we will map where we are in our self-care, strengthen our self-awareness of how our bodies respond to the circumstances of our lives and the society around us, and identify our habits. We will experiment with ways of working with ourselves to learn*y to change some inappropriate tendencies, and together we will create new possibilities and new capacity to be authentic and responsive to ourselves, for ourselves and together.
Glynis Hull-Rochelle and Laura Henderson are expressive arts artists and therapists who believe in the power of creativity to help people get in touch with themselves and each other, to rethink and change the ways we live with each other, and to heal. Together, among other projects, they have run QTY (a social/support program for queer and trans youth ages 13-21) since 2016 and founded the Queer Feminist Chorus in 2021.
The event will be in Czech and English and is free of charge.
Please book your place – email iu@institutuzkosti.cz
The event is organized by the Institute of Anxiety as part of the CURRENTS programme. AN INFINITE NUMBER OF POTENTIAL NATURES. The CURRENTS series stimulates interdisciplinary collaborations between individuals from activism, the exact sciences, and the visual arts, in which we focus on finding new forms of evolutionary processes, ecological interactions, and politics from the perspective of queer and feminist theory and interdisciplinarity.
