The course is organized within the project WOODS. Community for Cultivation, Theory and Art.
WOODS reacts to climate change and the related, accelerating processes of degradation in the agricultural and forest landscapes and the soil, increasing drought and the extinction of small animals. Through sharing, we want to fight the division of landscape according to cadastral register and the loss of planetary, soil and gut flora and fauna diversity. We will focus on sustainable agriculture, water management, migration, nutrition, psychology, health, the intelligence of animals, plants and mushrooms and our communal presence in the landscape. We will move across the boundaries between art, science, activism, work and rest.
WOODS disrupts the dualism of theory and practice, city and country, state and planet, humans and nature. We aim to create a sustainable, biodiverse forest as a friendly habitat for different life forms: from microorganisms, bacteria, plants, mushrooms, animals all the way to humans. In the forest, we will draw on the interconnected formats of work, education and academic and artistic reflection and imagination to address the questions concerning the future life on the planet we have damaged.
WOODS was prepared in 2018 as a part of Institute of Anxiety’s program. It comes to life on a 1.8 ha forest lot near the village of Hnátnice in the Orlické Mountains, which was bought for community purposes by the organization Are.
The project is realized with the support of the City of Prague, Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Municipality of Prague 7 and the State Fund for Culture.
